How to Improve Your Chances of Passing Your Driving Theory Test

If you think they are making it harder than ever to pass your driving theory test, you are probably absolutely correct! While there are many reasons this is true, there are ways in which you can improve your chances of passing. If you have already tried once and failed, you can get more information on how to improve your scores the next time around by taking practice tests and following the advice offered by Jake Burges on the Top Tests practice test website.

Changes in Laws Making the Theory Test Harder to Pass

Until the year 2007 there were only 35 questions on the test but now there are 50. Then, in 2009, reading comprehension questions were added, five of them, and those taking the test had to understand real-life type scenarios in order to come up with the right answer. Does this say something about the reading skills or our youth? Maybe, but maybe the questions are simply phrased in such a way as to make them ‘tricky.’

Then, a few years later, in 2012, questions were no longer allowed to be published so that students could memorise answers and the very next year, questions began being refreshed regularly. Finally, 2014 saw one of the most significant changes in that interpreters were no longer to be allowed into the written theory test so speakers of foreign languages were immediately at a disadvantage. Yes, statistics show that tests really are getting harder to pass.

Overcoming Those Changes

Perhaps the most useful tip for you is to take practice test after practice test so that you get an idea of how the questions will be phrased and the types of questions you will be asked. Also, study as often as possible and relate what you are learning to what you see actually happening on the roads as you are out and about. Can you spot what some drivers are doing wrong? If so, you’ve learned your theory well! Also, if you are not fluent in English, perhaps you’d like to have your tutor start spending time with you on translating the driving theory practice sites! In this way you can begin learning what those words mean so that you can ‘think’ theory in English rather than in your native tongue.

There is no way to get around all the changes in the numbers of questions or the way in which they are continually refreshed, but what you can do is study more. Take the practice tests and read the manual over and over and over again. The best advice you can take on board is to be prepared. If you’ve already failed the theory test once, you will actually be better prepared for the test the next time around because you will know what to expect. Did you know that many people fail tests simply out of fear? They know the answer but clam up when it’s time to give that answer. Don’t be caught off guard. You can pass and these tips will help you do just that.
