How Technology is Transforming Education

Technology is pervasive and has managed to filtrate just about every sector including education. It has found its way into classrooms and offices and transformed the way students learn and teachers deliver information. It can be said to be effective in many ways in terms of saving time, increasing efficiency, and making learning more dynamic. It is also something that the education sector has had to adapt to as it differs from the traditional ways of doing things. The good news is, it can be said to have had a positive effect on the way people learn globally. This article will look at just a few ways that technology has transformed education.

Engaging Students

In this day and age, textbooks seem to be taking a backseat while technology such as computers and tablets take over. This means that learners can collaborate and connect globally as a result. This isn’t particularly news as technology forward schools such as Salcombe Prep School in North London, have had software development and the study of HTML in their curriculum for some time now. However, it is becoming more pervasive in an increasing number of schools to use tablets and computers to engage students. Using technology to study can also increase technological literacy, especially when it commences from a young age.

Online Learning

Online learning has become increasingly popular for several reasons which include convenience and ease. Some examples of technologies that are used in education include Skype which teachers these days use to give lessons. They also record these sessions so that students can go back and review them later. This benefits students who might be occupied with other activities so that they can learn at a time and pace that suits them. Another technology that is used is OneNote Class Notebook, which is used by students to collaborate on projects digitally. This means that teachers have access and can provide feedback quickly whether the student was able to attend the class or not. In terms of its use to teachers, it enables them to manage project groups, distribute and grade assignments, share materials, and bring in guest speakers digitally.

EdTech

Another way that technology has managed to transform education is through providing the use of Edtech which has been changing the way both teachers and pupils spend their time. The market has been predicted to see exponential growth from $75bn in 2014 to $120bn in 2019 which is a significant estimate. New technology is emerging every day that is specifically made to meet educational needs. This includes software that is said to imitate the role of a tutor that can accelerate children’s learning. Additionally, technology such as Kahoot!, which is a game-based learning platform, Buncee, and AdmitHub make learning more interactive for both students and teachers. There also happens to be some software that is presently available for teachers that can help them with lesson planning, preparing for class and grading as well as correcting work. This could help give them more time to focus on students and learning as opposed to monotonous tasks.

In the last few decades, technology has managed to disrupt the way sectors and industries operate in a positive way. Students can enjoy the luxury of using the internet for research and teachers can enjoy a greater number of options for teaching. The education sector has seen a significant amount of change as well which has helped transform the learning experience.
